The Master of Studies in Law (MSL) is a graduate degree for professionals seeking legal knowledge without becoming attorneys. The National Security and U.S. Foreign Relations Law concentration explores the nature and origins of the federal government’s foreign relations powers, including the way in which U.S. law implements international law and has an impact on national security. National Security and U.S. Foreign Relations Law students explore legal frameworks for the use of armed forces and intelligence operations abroad, counterterrorism, homeland security, management of crises, immigration, nonproliferation, treatment of detainees, congressional oversight, and classified information, along with key foreign relations law topics, such as multinational and bilateral treaties, separation of powers regarding foreign affairs, and diplomatic and sovereign immunity.
